August 16-18 2002 "Colectividades" was held in Nogales, Sonora Mexico. This festival of resistance held many things - here is a report on some of the workshops.
16-18 Agosto 2002 se realiza "Colectividades" in Nogales, Sonora Mexico. Esta festival de resistencia se trata con muchas cosas - aquí es un informe de unos de los talleres.

to Resist Militarization update / poner al día la Alianza Suroeste de
Resistir la Militarización
SWARM, based in Tucson,
works against militarization of the border region of Arizona. They have been
going door-to-door in border communities, asking people what they think about
what is happening in the region and informing them of situations they may not
know about. They have also begun their mapping project, to inventory and document
Border Patrol activity that is often destructive to natural desert areas.
SWARM is still recruiting for these activities, please contact them if you are
interested.
The point was made by a Mexican participant, that racism exists not only with
people crossing the border into the U.S., but also among Mexicans who may be
prejudiced against their neighbors from the South.

Arizona. Ellos han estado iyendo puerta a puerta en comunidades fronterizas,

Militarization: comparing
Israel/Palestine and the US/Mex border
Ryvka spoke about the multiple similarities of militarization in Palestine
and on the border between the US and Mexico. She started by defining that one
may be a jew but not a Zionist and vice-versa, and not all Zionists are jews
and vice-versa.

de Israel y Palistina, y los Estados Unidos y Mexico. Empezo definiendo que

the border crossed them
The original occupants, be they of Palestine or Mexico, often lived in these
areas before the political boundaries of state or nationhood were created. This
is especially poignant on the US/Mex border with indigenous peoples, who were
divided by the border and cannot migrate freely like they have for thousands
of years.

this same freedom. Likewise, Israelis are given the ability to migrate freely
through occupied territories, while Palestians are restricted in their movements.

Israel, like the US, is building a wall along the border of territories they
have declared thiers. This will undoubtedly bring the same problems to this
part of the world, as currently exist as a result of militarization in the Southwest
US / Northern Mexico.

With ethnic differences, racial profiling in Israel/Palestine is on the rise
with militarization. Racial profiling in the US routinely results in the detention
and harassment of people of color, regardless of if they are US citizens or
not.

helicopters, which both the Border Patrol and the Israeli military use in their

A good point was made, to make an effort to change the terminology of "territories"
to "colonies" in the Israel/Palestine region, as this is a more accurate
term.

Proposed
anarchist network
Peyo and Pollo from Hermosillo, Mex initiated a proposal to create a network
of anarchists for Northern Mexico and Arizona. The network would be primarily
for communication and solidarity. You could be a part of it as an individual,
or affiliated with a group. Such a network could be used to coordinate actions
on both sides of the border, such as international days of action. Groups working
on issues from Food Not Bombs to police brutality to environmental to labor
issues, could connect through this network. When taking action, a group could
propose that all other groups in this network signed on, and for example if
a group did not respond, that would mean that they supported the action. At
this point, this is merely a proposal and the organizers are asking that anyone
with ideas or input please contact them (Peyo can be reached at causaunida[AT]yahoo.com.mx).
Present at the meeting were people from Hermosillo, Nogales, Ciudad Obregón,
Guaymas, Tucson, Phoenix, and more. It was suggested that another gathering
occur within a few months of this gathering, although no date was set.

Peyo y Pollo desde Hermosillo, Mex iniciaron una propuesta de crear una red
de anarquistas del Norte de Mexico y Arizona. Esta red será principalmente
para la cominicación, y la solodaridad. Se puede ser un parte de la red
como individuál, o afiliad@ con un grupo. Una red de anarquistas sería
usada para coordinar acciones en los dos lados de la frontera, como días
internacionales de acción. Grupos trabajando con grupos como Comida no
Bombas o de cuestiones de la brutalidád policiaca, del medioambiente,
o de los obreros, podrían conectarse através de esta red. Cuando
se toma acción, un grupo propondría que todos los otros grupos
en la red lo se firmaría, y por ejemplo si no responderá, significaría
que apoya la acción. En este momento, este es solamente una propuesta

Indymedia network
Many people were interested in the concept of producing independent media, and
many present had also been involved in projects such as fanzines, video, and
radio. Contacts from Arizona Indymedia were present, and they shared much information
with contacts from Hermosillo, who would like to start indymedia there. All
were invited to Tucson October 3-6 for the Autonomous media conference, but
problems with crossing the border will prevent many from attending. Therefore
it was suggested that a scaled-down version of the conference, or perhaps individual
workshops on the subjects of highest priority (such as how-to fm radio) could
occur on the Mexican side of the border. On Sunday morning, all those interested
in indymedia came together for a circle, sharing their interests and priorities.
It is clear that there are many more resources for indymedia in the US than
in Mexico. It was suggested that a network of mutual aid be created for the
purpose of sharing resources and information across the border to assist in
the development of indymedia and various resistance movements . . . contact
info was gathered and the date of October 26-27 in Hermosillo was set for the
next time to get together about indymedia. Contacts in Hermosillo would like
an explanation and demonstration of how the indymedia websites work - they would
also like to know how to start one. This time could also be spent planning a
workshop on a weekday at some later date, for students and the public to learn
a specific aspect of how to make and use independent media. It is only natural
that Hermosillo indymedia become the "sister" project of Arizona Indymedia.

hablando sobre sus intenciones de empezar un indymedia en Hermosillo
Muchas personas tenían interés en el concepto de
producir medios independientes, y muchas han estado envolucradas en proyectos
como fazines, video, y radio. Contactos de indymedia Arizona fueron presente,
y compartieron información con los contactos de Hermosillo, quien quieren
empezar indymedia allá. Tod@s fueron invitad@s el 3-6 de Octubre a la
Conferencia de Medios Autonomos, pero problemas cruzando la frontera prevenirá
mucha gente de atender. Por eso fue sugerido que una "mini-conferencia,"

sugerido qué una red de apoyo mutuo formará para compartir recursos
y información através de la frontera para el desarollo de indymedia
y movimientos variosos de la resistencia . . . se cambiaron información
de contacto y pusaron la fecha de 26-27 de Octubre en Hermosillo para la proxima
véz unirse para este propósito. En Hermosillo, se quiere explicación
y demonstración de como functiona el sitio de web - también quieren
saber como empezar su propio. El tiempo en Hermosillo también sería
usado planeando un taller para un día de la semana más tarde para
estudiantes y el publico, para aprender como producir e usar medios independientes.
Es natural que indymedia Hermosillo sería vinculado al indymedia Arizona.

Este tema en particular me parecio muy interesante y seria bueno que en la reuinion en hermosillo, se llevara el taller de la estacion fm, y todo lo referente...
