right to peaceably assemble threatened in Tucson!

City Manager Jame Keane has come up with a plan to essentially ban protest in Tucson . . . don't let it pass!
On Wednesday, March 26th, at 7 pm there is an extremely important town hall meeting at the Tucson Convention Center. Here in our own town our constitutional right to peaceably assemble is on the line.
An insidious resolution proposed by city manager James Keene would:
require a permit for public gatherings and giving the chief of police sole right to refuse
require organizations to finance police and emergency service requiring prohibitive insurance premiums.
hold the organizer or policy holder totally responsible for any actions or injuries regardless of who is at fault.
limiting the time when any event could take place - nothing between 6:30 to 9:00 am, or 3:30 - 6:00 pm.
It is crucial that this resolution not pass. Our rights are at steak, especially at such a critical period. It is important to attend the meeting if possible or contact your council member and mayor or call the Mayor and Council Citizen Comment Line at 791-4700 to oppose this dangerous proposal.

The town hall meeting to discuss the assembly resolution has been postponed until further notice...this is what I am told by the person at City Hall who obtained a copy of the resolution for me. It would be good to get independent confirmation but I am pretty confident it really has been postponed.
Call City Hall (791-4786) Wednesdays to find out for when the meeting has been rescheduled. I intend to do that until it has been rescheduled...don't let it slip through the cracks!
The postponement may be a good thing. I, for one, just found out about this whole issue and have not really had a chance to educate myself about it. Postponement gives me (and maybe you?) that chance. I would like to post the text of the resolution but my own site is not up yet. I will look into posting it here. If that isn't possible I'll find somewhere to post and post THAT location here.

This ordinance would place responsibility for cleanup and damages squarely where it belongs, instead of allowing it to be passed on to unwilling, unsympathetic taxpayers. Personal freedom requires personal responsibility. This ordinance will promote both..
