Tucsonans “support the troops” by assaulting 67-year old Air Force Veteran at Clear Channel rally.

“Bill” as I will call him, had the most noble of intentions. He served as a Navigator and Nuclear Bombardier aboard Strategic Air Command bombers at a time when the safety of America was openly threatened by the Soviet Union. Having certain reservations about the current government’s policy on pre-emptive action against Iraq, he decided to do a very brave thing… speak out.
He was justly rewarded. Charged with guiding the aircraft into the Soviet Union and dropping two large thermo-nuclear devices on the city of Odessa, he spoke matter-of-factly about the destruction that would follow. "From so far up, it didn't seem so bad", he said, referring to the millions of lives he would have had the obligation to extinguish if so ordered. And he was willing to do so to defend his country. But, he has a very big problem with the current administrations policy of “pre-emptive” action, which brings us to the present.
“Bill” made a calculated risk in attending the so-called “support our troops” rally which was held in Tucson at Reid Park on March 29, 2003. As a veteran, he wanted to be a voice of reason, given that many in attendance had not had the opportunity to witness the true horrors of what may be in store for the world as a result of the government’s current policy of pre-emptive military action. He knew he would be alone in his act of trying to persuade those who could not possibly fathom the amount of responsibility he himself had accepted during “the good fight”, but was determined to make his view known.
He attended the Support Our Troops Rally and listened to speeches heavy with religious and nationalistic fervor. Clean cut and reserved, the dapper looking incidental provocateur said he began wondering if this was how the Hitler rallies started in the Germany of 70 years ago.
Shortly before Noon, he decided to retrieve the sign he had made himself specifically for this rally which read: “Mr. President: American Troops Serve to Defend Liberty, not to fight for Oil!” He was attacked almost immediately upon entering the crowd with his broom-stick mounted sign, and the mob of 20-30 people who beat him had this effect on the man who had served his country in staving off the perceived Soviet aggression:
“I went into this rally afraid that America was drifting into fascism, and went away from it knowing that we have arrived.”
He remarked that during his 30 years as a commercial airline pilot he probably guided many of those at the rally to a safe landing here in Tucson. As he was being pummeled “I held the broom stick in front of me, and luckily it deflected many of the blows directed at my face.” Police officers rushed the scene after what the victim describes as “not more than 15 to 20 seconds” and quickly spirited him away.
The two police officers who rescued him were protective and took no side, but the Unit Commander's tone was clearly sarcastic when he said “I’m really sorry this happened to you today.”
After it all, he summarized the state of the populace. “We are as polarized now after 2 weeks of conflict as we were after 5 years of senseless battle in Vietnam.”
“Bill” declined to press charges against any of his attackers, noting that it was universally understood that in doing so he would be risking further harm.

No violence in the Phoenix area(yet) when we "educate" truth to those Clear Channel KFYI War-Mongers at their PROFIT MAKING parties...The most we get is screaming & the middle finger from those gas-guzzing polluting terrorist sponsoring SUV drivers......Next KFYI War-Monger party is next Friday at Uno's Restrauant in downtown Tempe.

Typical. Freedom of speech is for everybody in this country as long as you agree with the Right-Wingnuts. Otherwise, you risk attack, or as often as not, are told to "just move away." America is in distress, and nobody can help us but ourselves.

It is imperative to ponder the notation if these actions are similar to the rallies of the Third Reich of Germany. Without examining the direct correlations our nation shares with past regimes and dictatorships we are bound to become lost in a repressive historical trend. These actions are reminiscent to that of Nazi Germany and of the treatment anti-apartheid supporters received in the less-than-democratic society of South Africa.
Prosts to the retired Air Force gentleman for his courage
And these are the guys who

screamed and yelled that we did not treat vets to a parade when they returned from Vietnam? These are the guys who "support our troops" and cut the veterans affairs budget at the same time so they will have enough money to run their SUVs all over creation? How low will these guys stoop if they have to beat up an old guy to prove that they are macho ?????

it'll happen to ANY anti war loaf that shows at our rallys
I heard a different story

An eyewitness called in to the Steve Aiken show after the rally and told a different story. According to the eyewitness, the anti-war nut was rude and screaming ephitats and slurs. He yelled at one mother of a deployed soldier that she was "killing her child" by supporting America against the evil torturer Saddam. Understandably upset, the plucky lady punched the anti-American protester in the nose. At this point the USA hating protester leaped on the woman in a savage attack. It took 5 red-blooded Americans to pull the dasterdly communist off the deployed soldier's mother. Perhaps they got a bit rough in doing so but most people do get upset to see a woman attacked. If you want to hear this story yourself I suggest calling the Steve Aiken show, Saturday 3 pm to 6 pm, Radio Station AM 690 KVOI and ask him to play the clip.

It just goes to show these biggtoted hatemongers know no other way to express themselves except through violence. How can they attack an elderly man? (a man who served this country they are so damn proud of) do they ever think about things like this?..These rallys remind me of what Hitler did when he first came to power to whip people up into a blind frenzy of ugly nationalism...It goes to show these "people" have no commone sense, nor any idea of what democracy is, only ignorant fundamentalism...There (un)offical policy: obey and keep your mind/mouth shut..How can the fascists that post here regularly (kate) say we have free speech anymore? You people will get yours..we have stood longer then you have your trend is only that of short sightedness we will inspire a national uprising of love and tolerance and a revolution of unity..We can start today by opening our mouths at every opportunity these "people" give us...To all you "patriots" at KFYI you better watch your back when the real bombs fall, we will be ready and then we will see who will stand tall!

"Jorge you are not welcome here go find someone who agrees with your stupid fascist nonsence. This is for Progressive news, everyone here knows who you are and were calling you out."

Above is your quote from another thread. You are a fine one to talk about Freedom of Speech. You constantly contradict yourself. Make a decision and stick with it. You are confusing us all. I was going to try and make nice Dp but I see you like to get all pissy on here so I'll keep my attitude.
And if you had your wishes that Veteran would have been shipped home in a body bag..No? If not you may have even spit on him had you been around then. Confused? (See your post about wishing death upon our Military guys...which is one of the things I said was Anti-American) So what are you cryin about. I can regurgitate things here too, Dirty.
We all have a right to speak. You are begining to sound like a commie yourself. Choose a side.
come again?

Communist? There aren't a whole lotta communits who would be willing to fight to defend a capitalist regime. Maybe you'd better read the whole article and get all the facts before saying something ridiculous.

Hey I.C. You, I like your style...
It's about time we got our nation back on the Right track and I and some of my associates have been developing a program that you true patriots might agree with. Here are some excerpts:
5. Noncitizens shall be able to live in the U.S. as guests only, and must be placed under alien legislation.
8. Any further immigration of non-Americans is to be prevented. We demand that all non-Americans who entered Germany after September 11, 2001, be forced to leave the country without delay.
9. All citizens are to possess equal rights and obligations.
10. It must be the first duty of every citizen to perform mental or physical work. Individual activity must not violate the general interest, but must be exercised within the framework of the community, and for the general good.
18. We demand a ruthless battle against those who, by their activities, injure the general good. Common criminals, protestors, profiteers, etc., are to be punished by death, regardless of faith or race.
Let us know if you interested in working together. Contact me at 1934wasaverygoodyear@aol.com if you are.
Glory to the Homeland!

#8 should read: "We demand that all non-Americans who entered the U.S. after September 11, 2001, be forced to leave the country without delay."
