Phoenix Copwatch is putting on three know-your-rights forums and 1 series of training sessions.
October 6th: especially for residents around Gammage-
During the Presidential Debate at Gammage Auditorium at ASU on October 13th, there will be heightened security in the area. Police will be blocking roads and restricting movement. There will be several law enforcement agencies protecting the presidential candidates and the Debate itself.
During this time, if you are in the area, you will likely interact with law
enforcement. Phoenix Copwatch is hosting a know-your-rights forum to
educate local residents (anyone is welcome) about their rights.
Suzanne Sanchez, a lawyer for the Maricopa County Public Defender's Office will talk about your rights and will be able to answer general questions.
When: Wednesday October 6, 2004, 7pm
Where: ASU Main Campus, Memorial Union Building, Turquoise Room on the 2nd Floor
October 12th: especially for demonstrators around the Debate-
Thousands of people were arrested at the RNC for simply demonstrating there. You may or may not be arrested at the Debate, and you may or may not have your rights violated. Knowing your rights will empower you to make good decisions and to not be taken advantage of. Get educated. Eleanor Eisenberg from the AZCLU will be speaking about your rights the night before the Debate in Tempe.
When: Tuesday October 12, 2004, 5pm
Where: Gentle Strength Co-op, 234 W. University (1 block west of Mill Ave.), Activities Room
October 23rd: As part of the Oct 22 National Day Against Police Brutality events- (See Phoenix Copwatch's calendar for more information on the Oct 22 events.)
This will be a general know-your-rights forum.
When: Saturday October 23, 2004, 1-3pm
Where: Dobson Ranch Mesa Public Library, 2425 S. Dobson Road in Mesa, Meeting Room
