Crimes Against Humanity : AZ IMC

Hello my name is Sergio,

I am writing this message as a student and as a Chicano. This message is my cry for help. Fellow students and friends, it is my duty to inform you of a frightening occurence that is taking place at our nations border. As of April 1st an extremist group known as "the Minuteman Project" is planning on forming an armed militia along the Arizona border, whose sole purpose is to take the law into their own hands and "patrol" the borders from what they describe as the "threat of invasion" by illegal immigrants. This militia plans to create a "human shield" that will attempt to deter the flow of immigrants into our nation by what they describe as methods of "detainment," in which they plan to capture and harass men, women and children that have the misfortune of crossing their path. This group already has approximately 1000 volunteers from around the nation willing to camp out for up to a month if necessary. The problem is that members of this group will often times be more heavily armed than our U.S. Military as Arizona law allows civilians to openly carry firearms. Similar racist groups have attempted this in the past in smaller scale operations, and in many cases the result has ended in the senseless death of harmless immigrants at the hands of these vigilante groups. This is inhumane and unjust, and I say this not only because I can readily identify with the people being harmed by the aggressive actions of this group, as I am of Mexican descent, but more so because it is a racially charged crime against humanity that if left unchecked, could spread and affect each and everyone of us whether you are Asian, Indian, Black, White, Brown. If this was happening to your brothers and sisters, would you not act? I urge you, if you feel at all compelled to do something about this matter that is occuring so close to home, to please act on your compassion and come out to support and protest this injustice.

A formal protest and rally will take place Friday March 18th @ 12noon in San Bernardino at La Placita Park located on the corner of Mt. Vernon & 7th. Another group will have a rally on Saturday March 19th from 9am-12pm. This rally will take place at 22 Vista del Valle Aliso Viejo, CA 92656. This is the location of the home of James W. Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project.

Another meeting is tentatively planned for Riverside around the 26th of March.
