POLICE DETAIN WOMAN AND CHILD AT TUCSON PROTEST
TUCSON, AZ -- 21 MARCH 2005 -- Tucson police arrested a woman and a female child during an apparently peaceful rally on Monday. Protesters, who had gathered at the Tucson Convention Center, where the president spoke on Monday, looked on as several police officers handcuffed the woman and child and marched them across the road to waiting police cars. Nearby Bush supporters, some of them cheering, watched from nearby in the TCC parking lot. Witnesses identified the woman and child as mother and daughter, and reported that neither of them had done anything threatening. At this time, no further information has been released to the public.
The protesters, who voiced opposition to the president's proposed social security privatization plan, the war in Iraq, and other policies, greeted the presidential motorcade with jeers and chants, while Bush supporters filed into the convention center to hear the president speak. Presumably, those allowed to enter were thoroughly vetted beforehand, as is the well-known practice of Bush campaign managers. Demonstrators stayed throughout Bush's speech, and again harangued the motorcade as it quickly departed. The arrest of the woman and child was made during the motorcade's departure.
Following the hasty exit of Bush's entourage, his supporters, many of whom wore stickers reading "Fix Social Security Now!", filed back to their cars in the parking lot, past a throng of shouting protesters. Demonstrators's shouts ranged from "Bush is not a Christian!" to "Shame, shame, shame!" to "Lift the cap on the FICA tax!" Police interposed themselves between protesters and Bush supporters, but not arrests were made, nor altercations reported. The rally then dispersed without incident.

Total police state! This country has become 1938 Germany. Why is the woman blindfolded? Where were they taken? What were they accused of?
I and hundreds of thousands of others want answers!

thank god for the BLOGGERS. without you we'd never have any REAL NEWS. the major media really is the right hand of the poliitical force that's taken over america. in the old days they called media produced by the government "propaganda". most americans live on the garbage. they believe it too. these are strange days we live in.

I did not see Tony Blair anywhere in that picture so “trained poodles” are not applicable here.
<br><br>
Sorry . . . I couldn’t resist.
<br><br>
The dogs in that picture are “Bouviers des Flandres” . . . commonly called Bouviers (boo-vee-ay) for short. The one in front appears to be a smallish young female and the one behind is an impressive black male.
<br><br>
Sorry if I intruded . . . it’s just that my Bouvier, Darby . . . would be insulted if she were referred to as a “poodle”.

What looks like a blindfold is actually the brim of a hat worn by the woman who was arrested. I, too, thought it was a blindfold at first, but subsequently published pictures make it clear that this was actually part of her hat.
Thank goodness!

It is my strong impression that more protests should be aimed at the media. I, along with millions of others, am downright sick of the media not doing their job. From the war, to the war protests, to the inability of Congress to investigate any government corruption (elections, Halliburton, Enron, budget cuts, environment, oil theiving.) Everyone needs to start aiming some dissent at the mainstream media.

Sorry about the screen size of the article. This is a result of my accidental inclusion of a large photo. The text field is apparently determined by the size fo the photo.
In future, I will be more careful about the photos I upload, and also about the breeds of dogs I try to identify!

Oh, but we are
by The Corporate Media

We must never allow ourseves to be deceived into thinking that the media's job is to tell truthful, accurate news. Its job is to make money. Any, you may be thinking, protests are interesting and fun, so they should be showing more of them in order to gain viewers. But the media does not make money from its news, but rather from advertising.
For example, a newspaper determines how many pages it will have by how many ads it has sold. This is usually known by noon. Then the ad manager tells the newsroom editors how much space is left over for them to fill.
No matter how sick we get, how active we become and how hard we try, the media is not here for us. In Tucson, it is for the developers, Raytheon, insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
This is why we need to push big time to stop the budget cuts for groups like Access Tucson. In fact, we need to demand huge budget increases for not-for-profit, independent media outlets. We need our own FM stations, our own newspapers, and access to billboards.
We can build our own medias, screw the corporate ones.

Perhaps within 30 to 45 minutes after the protest I saw the woman and her niece walking freely past me, probably to home, as I waited for a bus.
