Well if they arn't declaring war on the homeless it could be a job protection program for hotel and motel owners.

City bans sleeping in car while on public street
FLAGSTAFF - Sleeping in a car parked on a public street is now illegal in Flagstaff.
The ban, approved by the City Council in a 4-3 vote Tuesday, is intended to stop homeless people from camping out on public property anywhere inside city limits.
Supporters said police need the new ordinance to combat vagrancy, while opponents think it's too broad and could make being homeless a crime.
"The net we are casting is so wide, it brings in a group of people who should not be here. It casts a net over those poor working families," said Councilman Art Babbott, who opposed the change.

the really sad thing is that over people showed up in large numbers (over 30 at two meetings, with large numbers at all others) to show their disaproval of this ordinance. former police officers, teachers, students, business owners and various help agencies (ex: st. vincent de paul and more) all came and spoke against this ordinance but council members decided that "strange looking people made them uncomfortable" and should therefore be thrown into jail. i strongly encourage everyone to call or email the city council and DON'T vote for cooper, donaldson, silva, and haughey. to email: council@ci.flagstaff.az.us opinion hotline: (928) 779-7691 and phone: (928) 779-7600

yes, yuppie america wants to hide the effects of their greed from themselves so they do not have to think about ethics. all thsoe yuckie homeless vets and native americans disposed of for their greed. we cant have homeless wreckage hanging out as yuppie country club folks do latte chic downtown shopping! that is just gross! the same folks that ARENT killing iraqi children for their ford explorers and yukons, divorced from reality and a danger to us all.

Once again we see the stupidty of Goverment officals,poor people who dont have any thing are going to be put in jail and or fine for sleeping on public ways such as side walks.What do they think they are to gain?uh,it will cost the city more money to put them in jail than if they built a shelter and supply jobs for them.But this is the way the capitalist in this country solve what they, call problem solveing.Real smart uh.Yahudah Ben Yisra'EL

i think it behooves all progressives in flagstaff to step up to the plate and solve the problem by inviting a homeless person to live with them. oila! no homeless problem.
