FIGHT POLICE BRUTALITY!

October 22nd is National Day Against Police Brutality

Phoenix Copwatch and the Phoenix Anarchist Coalition are hosting a day of events to commemorate National Day Against Police Brutality on Saturday, October 22nd. The recent videotaping of white police beating a defenseless 64-year-old African American man in New Orleans has reminded the world that racism and police brutality didn’t end with Rodney King.

The day will start with a march and rally in downtown Phoenix, starting at the Cesar Chavez Memorial at 3:30 pm. The memorial is located at City Hall at the corner of 3rd Ave. and Jefferson. We will hear from speakers whose families’ lives have been affected by police abuse and from community activists who are working to stop police brutality.

At 6 pm we will continue with a Know-Your-Rights Forum at Counter Culture Café, 2330 E. McDowell (just west of 24th St.). A lawyer will instruct us on what to do when stopped by the police and will answer questions about what our rights are during police interactions.

A show to benefit Phoenix Copwatch and political prisoners Laro Nicol and Richard Williams will follow the forum at Counter Culture Café. Bands and performers include Brad B (from Drunken Immortals), Sigma, Seveer Tire Damage, Tuning Room, Swallowing Stones, and more. You can learn more about Copwatch and the political prisoners, then decide where you want your donations to go.

In Tucson too

O22 FESTIVAL:

October 22nd National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation

Saturday, October 22, 2005

2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Armory Park Ballroom

220 S. 5th Avenue

Tucson- Migra Patrol-Copwatch with Coalición de Derechos Humanos/Alianza Indígena Sin Fronteras, Defeat 200, Phoenix Copwatch, October 22nd Coalition, Refuse and Resist, No More Deaths, Prescott College/Tucson Center, presents a Community Festival for the “October 22nd National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation.” The event will be held on Saturday October 22nd, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Armory Park Senior Center. Various presenters will speak about the effects of police brutality and misconduct on communities, particularly in communities of color. Victims of police brutality will also share their stories.

The communities, especially Youth, are being called upon to stand up now more than ever, in a time when Arizona is experiencing a climate of increasing repression and brutality. This crisis will continue to rise now that DPS has been trained to act as immigration officers, a plan unveiled by Governor Janet Napolitano in August of 2005. Furthermore, recent police shootings in the City of Tucson have created more fear than confidence in police. Murder is murder. Abuse is Abuse.

October 22nd is the day when people all over the country come together to STOP police violence, repression, and the criminalization of a generation. Across the country, in different cities and through different means of expression, we unite in protest against their steadily increasing moves towards a police state. We resist so that we will not be crushed. Endorse this call and spread the word. Join the struggle! Fight back! On October 22nd, wear black!

No progress will ever be made as long as the current SCUM are in charge
by Jim Tuesday, Jan. 03, 2006 at 6:47 PM

Nothing positive can EVER happen in the
East Valley, in terms of massive police perjury,
overall corruption, well-known, constant
crime BY POLICE OFFICERS, brutality,
and all the other lies, coverups, trappings,
and dementia associated with the small
cluster of psychopathic filth who run
police departments like Mesa's.

All protests of any kind will do is assist
these devious, inbred scum in identifying
who should be persecuted next.

When this chickenshit slimebucket pansies
blow the hell out of a human being, it is
MEANT to be a message to dissenters
and anybody who would like to see
police do something about crime. That message
is very simple, and in two parts: (1. These
police are full-time liars, cowards, and
criminals, and are WAY TOO AFRAID to
actually engage in law enforcement; (2. These
scum CAN get away with murder.
