"Our celebration of the New Year was something
different from the normal thing. A few hours after the year
began, we were in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at
the Independent University of Madrid, about 400 meters
from Moncloa, where Spanish politicians were enjoying
a celebration in the palace. But we had better things
to do. In the animal facility, we found 28 beagles in
cages, destined to be killed by university
vivisectors.
We broke the padlock, opened the door and one by one
we rescued them all. Four minutes after having broken
the padlock, we were already on our way.
Among those that we removed were puppies of little
more than a month old, and another litter had been born
that same night. These last puppies did not have much
luck, the night was very cold and they had been caged
outside; in addition the hygienic conditions were poor.
These puppies had been born on a layer of excrement
and rust, on a ground of cold cement with an outside
temperature of 2ºC. When we arrived at the cage one of
the six puppies was already dead, the rest were taken
directly to a veterinarian. Unfortunately the efforts
of the veterinarian and the mother were not sufficient
and three did not survive.
Of the 28 beagles that we rescued, we recently
discovered that one of the females is pregnant. The
veterinarian did an ultrasound and told us that there will be 5
or 6 puppies soon. These puppies will be born and
live in an environment of affection and happiness, and
will never know what a laboratory is.
This action we want to dedicate to William C. Rogers,
"Avalon". A companion who recently "appeared" dead in
his cell with a bag over his head.

sobrevivir.
"Avalon".
