PRESCOTT - A Prescott Valley police dog who bit a bystander when his handler let him out of a patrol car will be allowed to return to work.
Chief Dan Schatz said independent reviews of his temperament and training by Phoenix police and the Department of Corrections showed the dog was fit for work.
"Both of them said the dog did not display bad habits or aggressiveness," Schatz said.
The department put Qwest, a 3-year-old German shepherd, on administrative leave almost a month ago after he bit a 32-year-old woman, Scottie Lawrence. Qwest's handler, Officer Mike Pereda, let him out of the rear of his patrol vehicle before he attached a leash, and Qwest charged Lawrence and bit her.
