Minority Grants and Loans : AZ IMC

ELIGIBILITY 1. African American, Hispanic, American Indian and students from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (admitted to the United States after December 31, 1975, or whose ancestor was or is a citizen of Laos, Vietnam or Cambodia) enrolled in a private non-profit bachelor’s degree-granting institution or a public Vocational College are eligible to participate in the Minority Retention Grant Program. 2. Allocations are based on the previous fall term minority population FTE (full-time equivalent). Allocations are adjusted each year according to data provided by the schools. 3. Grant recipients must be second year students in a two-year program at a Technical College or sophomore, junior, senior or fifth year undergraduate at an Independent College or University. A student’s eligibility cannot exceed 8 semesters or 12 quarters. No awards may be made to Freshmen or first year students. 4. The student must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen and Wisconsin resident as determined by the Board in conformance with the procedures followed for all Board programs. If a student is delinquent in child support or maintenance payments or owes past support, medical expenses or birth expenses a minority retention grant may not be awarded. 6. Students who are male and eligible for selective service registration must be registered with Selective Service. 7. Students with an earned bachelor’s degree are not eligible to receive a grant under this program. STUDENT BUDGETS 1. Student budgets shall be based on the cost of education for the student. 2. The amount of the Minority Grant is determined by subtracting the student /parent contribution, plus all other financial awards the student is eligible to receive, from the student budget. 3. The maximum Minority Grant award may not exceed $2,500 per academic year. 4. The institution must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Board that Minority Retention Grant funds are not replacing institutional grants for which the recipient is eligible. ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCY 1. The Board will maintain fiscal records and voucher program checks when signed agreements are received. All checks are sent to the institution. 2. The Board reserves the right to determine institution compliance through staff visitation and inspection of student financial aid records.
