November 1st: There are Solidarity Blockades throughout the world. The resistance in Oaxaca continues and we are celebrating the Day of the Dead

8:42 Today there was a search warrant issued against the Universidad de Oaxaca, with the pretext of looking for weapons. It is feared that this is a pretext to attack Radio Universidad in Oaxaca.

8:39 A telephone report indicates there is repression in Querétaro against protesters of the Other Querétaro, who were in solidarity with the people of Oaxaca in the Plaza de Armas. They were attacked by paramilitaries. The Other Querétaro will protest again tomorrow.

8:38 There is a report on Radio Universidad that there is an operation of the AFI with 100 trucks heading for University City.

7:50 People are invited to the offering being made outside the Bellas Artes Palace in Mexico City, to name all of our dead from the struggle. There is music and many activities.

6:10 In front of the Chedrahui there are trucks onto which two people are being loaded.

6:08 The Mobile Unit of the National Human Rights Commission has released testimony from the PRI-istas, at the same time as they are attacking presumed members of the APPO. There are reports of 30 detained at Channel 9.

4:06 The march – accompanied by 3 Zapatista comandantes – has arrived to Hemiciclo a Juárez in solidarity with the people of Oaxaca.

3:48 There is a march from Avenida Reforma to Avenida Hidalgo, a protest of the Other Campaign in support of the people of Oaxaca. Three comandantes of the EZLN are participating. The march is against repression, for the withdrawal of the PFP from Oaxaca and for the resignation of governor Ulises Ruiz.

3:44 There are intermittent roadblocks in Insurgentes and Reforma.

14:37 There is a blockade at Avenida Reforma and Avenida de Insurgentes in Mexico City.

14:22 There is a call for the neighbors of Brenamiel in Oaxaca to reinforce the people there who are protesting. The PFP, the PRI-istas, the AFI and the paramilitaries continue to sack Channel 9.

2:22 The 7494 patrol has taken away a boy from Pueblo Nuevo, Vigueras. Near Channel 9 there have been two other people detained, who are being loaded onto a truck.

2:18 The helicopter of the PFP that was at Breñamiel has arrested 5 compañeros.

1:32 The PFP has continued in the Breñamiel zone; they’ve continued sacking the installations at Channel 9. The Senate Human Rights Commission has arrived to document these events.

1:22 In Mexico City they are calling for people to speak out in the metro and on busses. Talk to people about what is happening in Oaxaca. (supposedly to break through the media silence)

1:11 From Geneva, Switzerland, the World Organization against Torture has issued a statement against “the excessive use of police forces against the protesters in Oaxaca” and are calling for the immediate release of all of those who’ve been arrested.

1:08 Tlahuac Avenue and the Periférico (in Mexico City) are closed, in solidarity with Oaxaca.

12:57 The PFP are destroying the installations at Channel 9.

12:57 There is a helicopter circling above Brenamiel in Oaxaca.

12:55 there are demonstrations today in Berlin and Bremen

12:42 The PFP have encircled the Brenamiel in Oaxaca.

12:38 It is reported that at the Calle de Niños the heroic Federal Preventive Police (PFP) have captured a 130year-old, detaining and beating him.

12:37 There are reports that agents of the Federal Agency of Investigation (AFI) have entered Channel 9 and are searching it.

12:35 There are reports that in Tlaxiaco and Chalistenango there has been violence in the search for two teachers. First the PFP launch teargas at the houses of the teachers and then break down the doors. This same method was used in Atenco, and since then the PFP has agreed not to use this tactic.

12:34 The APPO are marching in the historic center of Oaxaca, having left from Santo Domingo.

12:27 In the commercial media Vicente Fox, the president of Mexico, has said that he recognizes that the “Case of Oaxaca” will harm the new president, Felipe Calderón, who has arrived at his position through the fruit of an electoral fraud. (before Fox took the oath of office in 2000 he promised to solve the conflict in Chiapas in “15 minutes” How many quarter hours have passed since then?)

12:11 Commercial media are reporting a group of people in solidarity at Eje Central and Avenida Madero that are protesting whenever the traffic light turns red. Tláhuac and Periférico continue to be blockaded in solidarity. In the east of the city they have re-opened the Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza and the highway to Puepla.

12:10 There are reports of people injured and 30 detained at Channel 9 in Oaxaca.

11:58 The radio station of governor Ulises Ruiz is calling for donations of supplies for the PFP, a way of encouraging crime and theft. During the last few days in the Zócalo members of the PFP have robbed businesses while searching for food, according to testimonies of journalists and the owners of these businesses.

11:50 There are reports that the PFP have attacked the barricade in front of Channel 9 in Oaxaca, the television station that has served as a popular television station for a few weeks until the paramilitaries entered and destroyed the equipment.

11:48 The sixth commission, the Other Campaign in Juárez and the Other from the Other side have blocked an international bridge in solidarity with the dignified people of Oaxaca. A small encounter has been realized, where themes of migration, the lack of justice for the politically disappeared and drug trafficking are being discussed. Working women and compañeros of the Chicano movement have participated. Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos assured everyone that there is not an “other side” – it is the same. Those who are from the “other side” are those in that helicopter and those in the White House. From the middle of the meeting until now there has been a helicopter from U.S. police watching the encounter. They finished with a symbolic barricade left on the bridge.

11:45 A blockade has been constructed on the Picacho-Ajusco highway in the south of Mexico City. The blockade has been created by alumni of the National Pedagogical Univesrity, among others in solidarity with the people of Oaxaca.

11:29 There is a report from Enlace Zapatista published on their website: Chiapas. All of the highways crossing through Zapatista territory are shut down. Every highway leaving or entering San Cristóbal de las Casas, Ocosingo, Altamirano, Comitán, among others, have been blocked by the indigenous Zapatista communities and their autonomous municipalities.

11:02 the APPO has made a call to install barricades (both symbolic and real) in Mexico and throughout the world.

8:54 The police are attack the protesters who are blockading the entrance to the Mexican embassy in Brasília, in solidarity with the people of Oaxaca.

8:42 There is a road blockade in support of the APPO at the entrance of the México-Puebla highway. There is another blockade in Avenida Tláhuac. Both are in Mexico City.

8:30 There are reports of a blockade on the highway between Los Reyes Texcoco and the state of Mexico to the west of Mexico City.

12:20 am November 1st - the Other Campaign has called for mobilizations through Mexico and north of the Rio Grande to block highways, roads, avenues, airports and all the pathways of communication in support of the APPO and Oaxaca

During the 1st and 2nd of November the Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout Mexico. This year the day arrives under an environment of terror imposed by the Mexican government in Oaxaca. Despite this the people in Oaxaca and in all of Mexico will be celebrating the Day of the Dead. The social movements will remember the dead of Pasta de Conchos, Sicartsa, the women murdered in Juárez, the fallen of Atenco and the people who have fallen in Oaxaca during the reign of Ulises Ruiz.
