The Local to Global Justice Teach-in returns to ASU-Tempe on March 1-2, and the Teach-in planning committee is excited to announce the launch of our brand new, completely redesigned web site! Now it's much easier to find out what's happening at the Teach-in this year and connect with other people who are interested in social justice and sustainability.
To access the site, just head over to www.localtoglobal.org. (Due to server maintenance, you may be redirected to a different web address, but that is only temporary while we make a few more changes to the site.) If you've been to our site before, you'll notice that it looks a lot different. Here's what's new:
- We've updated the FAQ section to answer common questions about the Teach-in. Go here first if this will be your first time at the event, or if you have specific questions about what's going on this year.
- We've updated the information about our keynote speakers and musicians. We've got a great lineup this year, and you can learn more by clicking on the "Featured speakers" and "Music" links on the left-hand menu.
- We've added discussion forums so you can connect with other Teach-in participants and social justice advocates. Just click on the "Forums" link in the menu. If you need a ride or housing, post a message in the 'Housing and transportation' forum. If you are planning an event that you'd like the community to know about, use the 'Upcoming events' forum. If there's anything else you'd like to discuss, start your own topic!
- We've started a blog! Click on the "Blog" link to read the latest posts (make sure you click on "Read more" to access the full entry). The localtoglobaljustice blog will be updated regularly with information about the Teach-in, discussion of topics related to this year's theme, and news about upcoming events. Check back often or subscribe to the RSS feed using the little orange button at the bottom of the blog page. Comments are welcome and encouraged. And if you have a blog that would be of interest to Teach-in participants, be sure to mention it in a comment.
- We've made it easier to support the Teach-in by making a donation through PayPal. Just click on the "Donate" button and pay securely online with your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account. We rely completely on donations to continue providing this entirely free event every year, so please consider helping out.
- We've added image galleries for photos from previous years and pictures of murals by this year's keynote presenter Mike Alewitz. If you have photos from past Teach-ins that you'd like to add, please send us an email at localtoglobaljustice@yahoo.com.
All visitors are welcome to leave comments on existing forum topics or blog entries, but you must be a registered user to start a new forum topic. Registration is free and easy; just click the "Create new account" link in the User login box. All posts and comments will be screened for spam and other inappropriate content, so it may take a little while for them to appear on the site.
If you or your organization would like to participate in this year's Teach-in by presenting a workshop and/or volunteering at the event, click on the "Submit a proposal" and "Volunteering" menu items. We're also looking for adults who want to help facilitate youth workshops. Check out the "Youth activities" link for more info.
As we get closer to the date of the Teach-in we'll be posting the updated schedule of events and list of workshops, so check back often to get the latest.
You can also sign up to receive Teach-in updates via our announcements Yahoo Group. Just enter your email address in the green box on the right side of the website. It's a low volume list that's only for announcements, so you won't be flooded with messages from us.
In keeping with the principles of the Local to Global Justice Teach-in, we have tried to make the website accessible to people with disabilities. Please let us know if there are any features that we could improve upon.
If you have any questions about the site or the Teach-in itself, just drop us a line at localtoglobaljustice@yahoo.com.
See you at the Teach-in!
