Tucson Says "No" To Sheriff Joe
by Steev Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at 2:22 PM

On the morning of January 25, Tucson community members met at the Sheraton Hotel on Broadway to unwelcome Joe Arapaio, the racist, anti-immigrant sheriff of Maricopa county.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known for his hardball tactics targeting undocumented migrants and wholesale violations of civil rights in Maricopa County, visted Tucson Friday, invited to speak at a luncheon of the Pima County Republican Women's Club. He was met by approximately 50 protesters from local immigrant rights groups and other organizations.

In a brief exchange with reporters on his way into the Sheraton Hotel, Arpaio admitted that he was surprised to see the demonstrators, claiming that he gave lectures around the country and never has recieved such a negative reception, but asserting it was his "right as an American citizen" to come to Tucson.

He also claimed that 25% of the incarcerated criminals in his county were "illegal immigrants". Protesters disputed this claim, as do many experts nationwide whenever various anti-immigrants make wild assertions like this.

A report on the demonstration, by Narco News reporter Brenda Norrell, is below:

TUCSON -- Protesters sent a loud message to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to "Go Home!" and take his practices of racism, xenophobia and vigilante patrols with him. Protesting outside the Sheraton Tucson on January 25, where Arpaio was the speaker at the Pima County Republican Women's Club luncheon, border rights activists and other local residents called for an end to the reign of Arpaio's repression and lawlessness.

Arpaio's practice of racial targeting of people of color and the addition of Minutemen to patrols were two of the reasons that Pima County residents sent a loud message to Arpaio. Tucson is located in Pima County, southeast of Phoenix and Maricopa County where Arpaio carries out his vigilante raids.

Derechos Humanos/Coalición de Derechos Humanos delivered a letter to Pima County Republican Women's Club.

"As members of the Pima County community, we are here today to question your decision to invite Sheriff Joe Arpaio to speak at your event. As you should be aware, Sheriff Arpaio bears much responsibility for the extremely volatile racial atmosphere in Phoenix and its outlying areas.

"The land of the Free" (ha ha ha)
by anastasia Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at 9:07 AM

How can a couontry that claims to be a 'free' nation allow chian gangs?! That's his claim to fame, the 1st female chain gang. This is more proof that this country hates the poor, hates women, and hates black people.
Indy readers: WAKE UP! Are y'all ever being fooled by the media with that 'illegal' (can we say 'undocumented'?!)
stuff. Please do not be the stereotype of an Ugly American. i.e., ignorant and arrogant. Get some wide-ranging inforamtion, then use your brain.

If you don't like it get the fuck out. Go to Iran, their human rights commission is in the process of executing people because they are homosexual. Wonder what they would do to a bunch of border busting illegals. Go pound sand you juvenile, stupid America hating morons.

Nightmares of Joe
by AmeriKKKa`s Nightmare Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at 5:52 PM

Just last week, Sheriff Joe Arcorrupto has arrested an American citizen of Mexican descent. Read the article in the Feathered Bastard`s column at:

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/blogs

If you live in Maricopa County under Joe Gestapo`s tyranny, we can oust him this year by simply voting him out of the office into a retirement home where he belongs not at MCSO. It is time for change and time to restore proper justice and integrity that our county has lost in Joe`s infamous reign of terror. Vote 4 Dan Saban!!!

Its time to wake up from these nightmares......

I love Joe
by Joe responder Tuesday, Oct. 07, 2008 at 1:37 PM

I think Sheriff Joe is great. He doesn't coddle criminals and enforces the actual laws. I love that he has chain gangs for convicted criminals. Prison is not meant to be fun, and I like that he makes life unpleasant. If you don't like it, don't do anything to get you back into prison.

And no, we can't say "undocumented." They are illegal aliens and that's that. If they get caught, so be it. On the flip side, I'm also real sick of people saying "they are taking our jobs." Really? I've never heard of a stickup where an illegal held up someone for their job. If you can't compete, tough. You need to put out a better product.

GO JOE!!! I personally stand by Joe. Our city's crime rate is down more then it has been in 10 years thanks to Joe and his no BS ways. He follows the law and so should you. If you don't belong here then you shouldn't be here, just like any other country with their immigration laws, including Mexico. If you don't wanna wear pink or do the time, then simply don't do the crime. If you do the crime it is your own fault, stop blaming everyone else, including JOE and take responsiblity for yourself.

Joe is great

Joe is great for arresting and beating up foreigners. If he would start bashing the heads of those homosexuals then things would really turn around.
