Grisham's Eyes Opened With Help Of Dennis Fritz On Death Penalty and Wrongful Conviction

In an interview published in the Jackson Free Press, Grisham says he met many wrongfully convicted people while researching the book, and “it doesn’t take too many conversations with men who are imprisoned and will probably never get out, who are innocent, to kind of flip you, to make you suddenly aware of this problem. That’s what happened to me.”
