The Barrett Honors Lecture Series highlights both the great faculty at ASU and scholars of all fields from across the nation. No tickets are required for any Honors Lecture Series event. The first ever Barrett Lecture at the Downtown Phoenix campus will be presented by Phoenix Mayor, Phil Gordon. Presentation title: "Making the Case for Reasonable Debate on Immigration Reform". September 24, 2008 3:00-4:00 pm The First Amendment Forum [2nd floor] Cronkite Building— 555 N. Central Ave., Phoenix 85004 Mayor Phil Gordon studied education at the University of Arizona and attended law school at Arizona State University, graduating cum laude. Gordon makes much of his varied professional background, citing stints as a teacher, business owner and CEO but politically his time as chief of staff to mayoral predecessor Skip Rimsza is probably of most interest. He was successfully elevated from the city council to the office of mayor in 2004. Gordon's winning agenda around crime, education and jobs rank as his stand-out signature policies. In doing so he points to an enviable first term record of securing a new light rail system for the city, two new university campuses and expansion of its convention centre. In light of these and other accomplishments, the mayor has been short-listed for the 2008 World Mayor Award.
