STOP POLICE BRUTALITY!!!

Copwatch is a group of ordinary people who observe and record police activity on the streets. We do this because we believe that police brutality is widespread in our communities, and that an effective way to stop it is to confront it directly. We believe that police harassment and brutality is especially widespread in communities of color and that this is due to the long history of white supremacy in this country. For us, the struggle against police brutality is also a struggle against racism.

Copwatch seeks to end police repression through police monitoring and community education. Copwatch goes out regularly and videotapes the police as they stop people or pull over their vehicles. We do not interfere with the police but we do record their activities to prevent police brutality and racism. We do not provoke confrontations with the police, but we do support the principle of self-defense against police attacks. We encourage everyone to watch the police and record what they see. Copwatch is completely independent from police, all other enforcement agencies, the government, and all political parties.

Copwatch wants an immediate end to all police brutality. We want to help end it by observing and recording police activity on the streets. Ultimately, we want to make it so that EVERYONE is Copwatch because we all have the right to watch the police.

Anyone who's not an employee of a law enforcement agency can join Copwatch. If you are interested, get in touch. If you would like to start a Copwatch in your own neighborhood, we can help:
