An interesting device to stop the photo radar bandits.

This device is a mirror attached to your plate that makes it almost impossible to read by photo radar units and even humans

I saw a car in the parking lot of a Target store with this interesting photo radar protection device mounted on the cars license plate.

The device is a two sided plastic mirror maybe 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide.

It is placed in the middle of the license plate between the two sets of numbers. It kind of looks like a sharks fin mounted on the license plate.

When you look at the license plate from directly behind the car you can read it perfectly.

But as you move to either side of the car the mirror blocks the 3 characters on one side of the plate and reflects back the 3 characters on the side of the plate that the numbers are visible on.

So if your license plate number was 123-ABC and the photo radar took a picture from the left side of the car the numbers 123 would be visible and the mirror in the middle of the plate would reflect back 321 so the photo radar would get your plate number as 123 321.

If the photo radar took a picture from the right side of the car the letters ABC would be visible and the mirror in the middle of the plate would reflect back CBA so the photo radar would get your plate number as ABC CBA.

Of course in both case the characters reflected back would be reversed like they always are in mirrors and the number 3 would look like a curvy letter E.

The device also makes it impossible for humans to read your license plate unless they are directly behind your car.

Does anybody know what this device is called, and more important if it is legal? And where they sell them?

While we are on the subject of photo radar one of my friends wears a mosquito net hat he bought at the Bass Pro Sporting goods store in Mesa to keep the photo radar bandits from getting a good picture of his face. I don’t know if it works or if it is legal but he does it.
