On October 7, 2001, the U.S. and Britain invaded Afghanistan--and the war on Afghanistan continues today, with President Obama, the “anti-war candidate,” increasing the number of troops. In early October the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance (NCNR), working with Peace Action, The War Resisters League, Atlantic Life Community (East Coast Catholic Workers), Voices for Creative Nonviolence, and Veterans for Peace, will mark the anniversary and speak out against the war with a permitted rally and march from the Women's War Memorial at the foot of Arlington Cemetery to the Ellipse on October 4, followed by direct action risking arrest at the White House on Monday, October 5. There, activists will attempt to deliver a petition asking President Obama to end the war. The petition will include the following points: remove all troops; assist with international efforts to rebuild the severely damaged infrastructure; increase medical support for those injured by our war on the population; close Bagram Prison; and end torture.
