*Friday April 23, 2010*
*Meet at Armory Park at 2:00pm*
*We will march to downtown Federal Building at 3:00pm and rally!*
• Why we’re marching: Our community joins in opposition of Senate Bill 1070.
Arizona senators passed a bill Monday April 12th that would require law
enforcement officers to question anyone they might be in the country
illegally. Anyone may be questioned if there is “reasonable suspicion”
including appearance.
• What we’re doing: We are demanding that Governor Jan Brewer VETO SB 1070 &
take a stance against these hateful bills as a collected disturbed &
troubled community.
Arizona State Legislation: These bills are authored and supported from the
same hateful group of people. These attacks are not only targeting
un-documented but a direct attack to our entire community, the quality of
education, the quality of living, and the safety of our city.
HB 2382: Department of Education shall compile data on un-documented
students and withhold state funding for those un-documented students.
HB2281: (bill attacking ethnic/raza studies) states that any course, class,
instruction, or material may not be primarily designed for pupils of a
particular ethnic group as determined by the State Board of Education &
Superintendent of Instruction. State aid will be withheld from any school
district or charter school that does not comply.
SB 1097: (bill attacking non-citizen students) states that the Department of
Education will collect data on school districts’ populations of non-citizen
students and their identities. Data will include research on impact of
non-citizen students’ enrollment, and cost to taxpayers per non-citizen
student. Based on these data reports the State Superintendent of Instruction
can withhold state aid for those non-citizen students.
GUIDELINES: Please do not throw this on the ground! You can be arrested for
littering. Peaceful demonstration, stay on the sidewalk at all times, do not
disrespect anyone else, do not disrespect a state official, please follow
the law (no drugs, threats, aggressive behavior, etc) Do not talk to press
if they do not have a media badge from a recognizable press outlet, there
will be infiltrators. We should not attack or verbally abuse the Governor or
counter-protesters. We are here demanding respect, let’s not disrespect
anyone. Governor Jan Brewer (602)542-4331 & 1-800-253-0883
