Rod Coronado Freed On Bail; Reports to San Diego Court on Monday
by Steev Hise Friday, Mar. 03, 2006 at 3:48 PM

After considering the matter all this week, Tucson Federal Magistrate Charles Pyle released Rod Coronado on bail. Coronado must report for a hearing in San Diego on Monday, March 6.

It was a happy day for environmental activist Coronado, who was released this afternoon after spending the last 9 days in jail. He was arrested by FBI and ATF agents on Wednesday, February 22 for allegedly teaching, demonstrating or distributing information regarding destructive devices. Judge Pyle set only a $2000 bail bond, which was paid by a friend of Coronado's family.

Coronado was joined in court today by about 15 supporters from the community. He immediately left the courthouse on his way to see his son and was not available for comment. He is required to report to the courtroom of Federal Judge Jeffrey Miller in San Diego on Monday, March 6. This appearance will be for a hearing regarding a motion entered earlier this week by prosecutors for a stay of his release. Depending on Judge Miller's decision, Coronado may be taken back into custody in San Diego.
