July 28th, Zocalo of Oaxaca. Update and pictures of resistance.

Amidst the Guelaguetza Commercial tourism, in the sunny mid day hours, an open space was created for expressions of resistance.
VOCAL ( Voces Oaxaqueñas Construyendo Autonomia y Libertad- Oaxacan Voices Building Autonomy and Freedom) kicked off this event talking about the struggles of Oaxaca and the situation of Oaxacan political prisoners. They gave updates on those arrested at the Guelaguetza Popular March on July 16th.(moreinfo:http://www.indymedia.org/es/2007/07/889250.shtml) Other Oaxacans spoke as well, sharing their experiences.
There were performances by children dancing on stilts, La Otra Guitarra,a ska-punk band, and a hip hop group...Public art installations, on cardboard and banners as well as on buildings.
After the music people gathered up, marching and chanting through the streets. The spontaneity and passion of the march was really beautiful.
Later in the rainy night, people huddled under VOCAL's structure watching a video documenting some history in Oaxaca, back to the barricades and peoples radio in fall. Following were more speeches by VOCAL( http://www.vocal.lunazsexta.org). All the days events, the strength and perseverance of the people resisting here in Oaxaca..Inspiration.
I'll be posting more updates, and photos, check them out, the show more than I express through words...http://www.flickr.com/photos/oaxacaverano
