City Manager Jame Keane has come up with a plan to essentially ban protest in Tucson . . . don't let it pass!
On Wednesday, March 26th, at 7 pm there is an extremely important town hall meeting at the Tucson Convention Center. Here in our own town our constitutional right to peaceably assemble is on the line.
An insidious resolution proposed by city manager James Keene would:
require a permit for public gatherings and giving the chief of police sole right to refuse
require organizations to finance police and emergency service requiring prohibitive insurance premiums.
hold the organizer or policy holder totally responsible for any actions or injuries regardless of who is at fault.
limiting the time when any event could take place - nothing between 6:30 to 9:00 am, or 3:30 - 6:00 pm.
It is crucial that this resolution not pass. Our rights are at steak, especially at such a critical period. It is important to attend the meeting if possible or contact your council member and mayor or call the Mayor and Council Citizen Comment Line at 791-4700 to oppose this dangerous proposal.
