Arizona Indymedia provides a forum for anyone to publish articles, stories and event. The system also allows people to post comments to anything published. All material is published to the "Other/Breaking News" category until a memeber of the AZ-IMC collective can read over the story and chose to place it in either the "Local" or "Global" newswire, or leave it in the "Other" category. Administrators can also hide stories that are against AZ-IMC's editorial policy. Any post containing blatantly racist or violent material, or posts that are duplicates, will be hidden. We try to not censure, but we also want to maintain a site that is respectful and promotes useful dialogue.
General Site Guidelines
- Please post news items only; post your comments after existing articles.
- Please only post original coverage or media analysis. If you must refer to corporate media material, use only a brief quote and a link to the original publishing site, along with your own critique or commentary.
- Please post just one copy of your story. It may take a while for media to show up, so please be patient.
- If you want to post multiple stories from other sites, please summarize and link them in one article rather than posting many articles one after the other which push other articles off the front page.
- For more information on posting, see how-to publish
We encourage people to publish:
- Researched, timely articles;
- Eyewitness accounts of progressive actions and demonstrations;
- Coverage of issues of importance to Arizona;
- Media analysis;
- Investigative reports exposing injustice;
- Coverage of events affecting underrepresented groups;
- Media produced from within underrepresented groups;
- Local stories with national or global significance;
- Stories on people or projects working towards social and economic justice;
- Original, underreported stories of local, regional, national, or global importance;
What NOT to Post
The Arizona Indymedia editorial collective volunteers reserve the
right to hide, or delete where neccesary, posts that:
- advocate criminal activity indicating a specific time, place and/or manner
- are duplicate posts (the most recent remaining on the newswire)
- are obviously libelous or slanderous
- interfere with the technical functionality of the website
- are intended to disrupt the site
- are empty posts (no content or gibberish)
- are commercial advertisements
- infringe copyright. This includes reposting of corporate media articles.
- promote racism, homophobia, sexism, or other discrimination.
- are obviously incorrect or misleading, including attempts to spread dis-information
- contain threats and/or intimidation
- flooding and spamming
Open Publishing
The AZ IMC Newswire works on the principle of Open Publishing, an essential element of the Indymedia network that allows anyone to instantaneously self-publish their work on globally-accessible web sites. The Newswire encourages people to "become the media" by posting their articles, analysis, videos, audio clips and artwork directly to the web site. You can publish to the Newswire by clicking the "publish" link on any page and following the easy instructions. Indymedia relies on the people who post to the newswire to present their information in a thorough, honest, and accurate manner.
The editorial collective develops sections of the site that provide edited articles, including the center column of the front page and various feature pages. There is no designated collective that edits articles posted to the Newswire. The site administrator (a rotating position from within the editorial collective) follows basic guidelines to hide duplicate postings and correct technical problems; all hidden articles continue to remain publicly accessible.
Through collective process, we may decide that a post should be hidden from the newswire. As Arizona Indymedia is primarily a website for progressive views, allowing oppressive opinions to proliferate here runs counter to the vision of the world we actively seek to create. In an effort to stamp out racism and other forms of bigotry, we will remove posts whose primary message is one of hate. We will also remove any post that directly threatens an individual with violence. Posts that fall into a grey area will be sent by the current site administrator to the editorial collective listserv, imc-arizona-edit@lists.indymedia.org. Anyone who has a concern about post they deem to fit into either of these categories may send the URL of the post of concern to this same listserv.
If you disagree with the content of a particular article that someone has posted or can provide further relevant information, you may comment on the article through the "add your own comments" link at the bottom of each post.
A spam attack is defined as a pattern of abuse of the newswire by a particular poster. If the editorial collective reaches
consensus (at a meeting or on the listserv) that a specific individual is launching a spam attack on the AZ IMC newswire, the
spammer's post(s) may be hidden from the newswire by a member of the editorial collective.
Each instance of recognized spam will be considered individually. When a member of the
editorial collective hides a post, s/he shall immediately notify the editorial listserv.
The hidden posts are accessible on an unabridged newswire which is located one
click away from the front page.
Contact arizona imc editorial listserv if you have any questions or issues with posts.
